Disciples of Christ

Disciples of Christ

Our family of faith is part of a larger family of faith called the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with 600,000 worldwide in 35 regions across North America. Though each congregation is independently governed, we are united in our beliefs that:

Jesus is Lord and Savior

Peter’s great confession from the gospels is all that is needed in order to become a Christian.

The Bible

The Bible is the authority for our lives and not creeds or church doctrines, which through the centuries have deeply divided Christ’s church.

The Lord's Supper

Communion is central to every worship service and is open to all who long for Jesus in their lives regardless of membership in our church or denomination.

Baptism

Our baptism is by immersion for those old enough to understand its meaning. However we accept all forms of baptism practiced by other churches, so it is not necessary to be “re-baptized” in order to join our church.

Passion for Unity

Our call is to work ecumenically with other churches in Wilkinsburg and around the world to honor Jesus’ prayer that “we may all be one” (John 17. 20-21).

Every Member is a Minister

Every believer in Jesus Christ is called to minister in His name, which is why our congregations actively encourage and support each member in discovering his or her gifts for ministry and service to the Lord.
